Color Wheels

The kids just finished their color wheels and I am so excited to share them! Here are a few of the more creative ones...including one by our Healthy Living teacher that thought she would attempt a color wheel out of Jello--WAY COOL!!

Color Wheels

Thanks to Pinterest (my newest obsession) I have been seeing color wheels everywhere. So, I gave my 7th graders the challenge of creating a color wheel. They were required to show all 12 colors, show all colors in the correct order, and were told they could use anything! We spent the first day of the project painting a color wheel. Day 2 was spent in the computer lab, "Becoming inspired". Shown are a few pictures of my little artists creating their color wheels. Some of the kids are doing the neatest projects!!




Cole is working on a pilow, Evan is melting crayons (with my embosser), Allie is doing a collage of candy, Alexis has drawing the characters she's famous for and is coloring them with colored pencils, and Alaina is embroidering her's. Great job! I can't wait to post the final projects!!

Self-Portraits

This year's 7th grade Independent Study students have been doing such an awesome job! I challenged them with a really large self-portrait project and they certainly rose to the challenge! The example I showed them was from a high school art class blog...they knew this and were never afraid to tackle the project. I am so proud of these that I put them in on the bulletin board in our commons. Now, anyone that comes to our school will have the honor of viewing them!!

One Point Perspective

Right before Christmas, the 7th graders learned how to draw a room (and the things that go in it) in one point perspective. It is a project that merges math and art together. Each room had to have a theme. I don't think anyone was surprised with Alexis' theme!

Gestures

The 6th graders just spent some time learning about the proportions of the human body and how to draw people in gestures (quick drawings used to capture movement). I've posted some fun one's!

8th Grade Still-Lifes

The 8th graders are really challenged with value drawings in art class. The first still-life drawing they do is a value sketch in regular pencil. Then, they move onto a value drawing in white pencil on black paper. This is difficult because the pressure of the pencil changes. However, it is a great drawing to get them ready for their scratch art drawing. All of their drawings are supposed to have 8 values. They really do a great job and it's so nice to see how far they have come since their first sketch for me, in 6th grade.

7th Grade Still-Lifes

The 7th graders actually do 2 still-life sketches. The first one is in regular value and the second one is in colored pencil. Enjoy a few of the best!

6th Grade Still-Lifes

The sixth graders finished their still-lifes before Christmas break and I am finally getting time to post them. The kids could choose any still-life to draw and were encouraged to use at least 6 values when shading. I think the results turned out quite nicely!

Gingerbread Houses

The Independent Study students had their Christmas party on Dec. 21st. We had a great time and created some really cool "Gingerbread" houses (made with graham crackers). No students take this project as serious as my Independent kids!! We had a great time!
